India Flag History
The India flag displays three colours horizontally: saffron, white and green with navy blue at its centre. The Saffron promotes the dedication of its people to work rather than material gains. The white represents light and to follow a path of truth and conduct. The green represents the soil and plant life, which all life depends. The wheel ‘ashoka chakra’ is highlighting the fact that there is life in movement.
India’s flag was born out of the country’s struggle for independence from British rule. The great Indian leader Mohandas Gandhi helped to develop the design. Gandhi led India’s peaceful and lengthy fight for independence. Back in 1921, many years before independence was won, Gandhi suggested a striped flag to the artist Pingali Venkayya. At its centre was a spinning wheel to show how the Indian people could take back control of their own industries from the British.
In 1947, the year India became independent, the national flag was unveiled with an ‘ashoka chakra’ in place of a spinning wheel. This wheel has 24 spokes to represent the 24 hours in a day. It represents the unchanging, never-ending laws of the Universe. Official Indian flags are made to strict rules, with each square centimetre made up of precisely 150 threads.

Israel Flag History
The flag of Israel was adopted on 28 October 1948, five months after the establishment of the State of Israel. It depicts a blue Star of David on a white background, between two horizontal blue stripes. The Israeli flag legislation states that the official measurements are 160 × 220 cm.
The blue colour is described as “dark sky-blue”, and varies from flag to flag, ranging from a hue of pure blue, sometimes shaded almost as dark as navy blue, to hues about 75% toward pure cyan and shades as light as very light blue. The flag was designed for the Zionist Movement in 1891. The basic design recalls the Tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl, which is white with black or blue stripes. The symbol in the center represents the Star of David, a Jewish symbol dating from late medieval Prague, which was adopted by the First Zionist Congress in 1897.
